Story

Over the ages, Western Civilization has flourished. From humble beginnings in Greece to Modern America, no civilization has survived quite so successfully. The original embodiment, the group of creators that molded the most prominent culture on Earth, has also survived the test of time. Just who are these creators? Why, I'm glad you asked.

They are the Great Gods of Olympus. Their very world has lasted for thousands of years and they still rule from atop Mt. Olympus (relocated to the 600th floor of the empire state building). However, their monopolization of world culture has led to a very bad and escalating situation. While Zeus, his brothers, sisters, and all of their offspring still live, their rule is assured, and this fact has troubled the terribly weakened Gods of other civilizations that have long since been removed from power. The Norse Pantheon, for example, had thrived for hundreds of years but failed to adapt to the times and were overshadowed by their burgeoning Greek counterparts, reduced to mere shadows of their former selves. They became mere monsters hungry for the power they once held. The Japanese, the Ancient Babylonians, and even the mighty Egyptians are facing a similar fate, their own people, perhaps unknowingly, turning against them in favor of the modernization and progress that the Greek Gods and Goddesses seem to embody.

The Forgotten Ones (as Gods and Goddesses of Forgotten civilizations are oft referred) waited for many years, watching Mt. Olympus, scoping for weaknesses. Whether or not they are truly ready to strike, a consensus has been reached and the respective gods, goddesses, and monsters of long dead civilizations are awakening, attacking the heroes and minor deities that have pledged themselves to Olympus. Even mortals, content behind the veil of blinding magical mist are not safe. While they see not what the Gods and heroes see, they are all too aware that a terrible conflict is brewing. With mass killings and destructive forces threatening to tear down the very civilization the Greek Gods and Goddesses have built, they find themselves on the brink of war with the rest of the world.

To combat their foes (for the Greek Gods cannot interfere directly in mortal affairs), the Gods and Goddesses are recognizing and awakening the powers of their sons and daughters and training them for war. They are preparing them to protect the civilization that had come to represent mankind’s greatest achievement. The Gods, in a desperate move, have also allowed a select few mortals to glimpse the true world beneath the mist so that they may perhaps be of use in the future. With the onslaught of such shocking knowledge most succumb to madness. But a select few rise above and have become powerful warriors, healers, wizards, alchemists or even oracles.

However, while Gods and Goddesses of Olympus activate these heroes, the Forgotten Ones seek to win support to their sides as well. Albeit terribly weakened, the Forgotten Ones have been successful in winning many to their sides, with dark promises of immortality and access to power and knowledge few immortal beings have access to, much less mortal ones. Humans flock to their sides and even half-bloods sometimes fall prey to their dark promises.

The problem of war is further compounded with the advent of a truly modern society. The Gods and Goddesses, while unfathomably powerful, are susceptible to some new technologies. Many humans and even the occasional half blood have abandoned magic and cold hard comfort of traditional iron and steel, finding it too cumbersome and difficult, in exchange for more powerful and modern weapons.

The true question is, who will you be? What side will you fight for? Will you be a son or daughter of God or Goddess? And if so, will you fight to preserve their rule? Perhaps, instead you will opt to be a special human, one who can see through the mist and into the true heart of the world. In that case, your allegiance is also being called into question. Or perhaps, you will opt to stay ignorant, stay a regular human, stay normal. Such is the destiny of most, but some, some perhaps unlucky few, still manage to fight with technology, with guns, even though they know not what they fight. Whatever you decide, you must decide quickly, for the more ancient enemies of the Gods will soon awaken and neither side will tolerate mixed loyalties. The day has come, my child. The sisters of Fate are rarely fair, hardly kind, and delight in life's cruelty. Nevertheless, the time is now. Where do your loyalties lie?
